Bonjour and Bienvenue to Café de Paris
Well, I guess besides this beautiful day of summer offering us a break in humidity, everybody has been focusing on the lousy economy. It hurts to pay gas at the pump and making sure your thermostat is well calibrated at home.
We at Café de Paris, have calibrated our menu by creating a more Bistro style menu with, as IKEA says; “softer prices”. A common thought with our new Chef Patrick Huggins, the good old guard Andy, who manages the Café in my absence, as well as Jessica, and her sister Nicole has been: “How can we provide an experience that is more pleasurable; leaving you content and full, and is, most importantly, less painful on the wallet.
The vote was unanimous: “let’s change our menu, decrease our prices and produce more eclectic dishes, so that your visit leaves you with a feeling of a great experience that you then don’t regret when you receive your credit card statement.
With that said, you’ve got to find out by yourselves if this is true or not.
From a nice piece of homemade pate, to the $19.95 portion of Boeuf Bourguignon, to the new Duck Confit resting atop a Lentil Salad, we are offering a palette of dishes and prices to fit the moment, your wallet’s size and your mood. Don’t forget we have a fabulous Jazz trio every Tuesday night where a glass of Rose de Provence and an order of escargot can create magic mixed up with a jazzy atmosphere!!
In the mood for something even more relaxed? Come visit the Crepe Café next door.
With such beautiful days as we have been seeing, you can also enjoy a drink with a lighter fair dish outside in our outdoor Café, “protected” by our custom made planters.
So really, there are plenty of possibilities to experience right here in your Columbia neighborhood.
Before I get distracted, don’t forget to keep some of your strength to enjoy our Bastille Day celebration, on July 12th and 13th!
We will be open for Brunch both Saturday and Sunday with a buffet of homemade French appetizers, a selection of 5 to 6 entrees and an Aristocratic dessert plate to please you palette. Otis will please your ears, playing accordion during Brunch. (He also plays bagpipe but we may do that outside!!)
On Sunday night Holly Lane will sing some French and American jazzy tunes from the 50’s, accompanied by her friend and fabulous pianist Bob Diener. They will perform first around 6pm and again a little after 8pm; a moment you should not miss in celebrating the weekend.
When you join us for this Bastille Day celebration, the first surprise will be to be welcomed by authentic and restored vehicles from the 2nd World War: two of our good patrons offered to display their passion for history in mixing the French and American friendship and will lend us a 1942 Army Jeep and a 1944 Army
Weapons Carrier.
They are worth the detour as well as the other activities scheduled from 10:30 AM to 5 PM, both Saturday and Sunday. We will organize a “BOULES” tournament, also called “PETANQUE”. A game of patience and agility, you have to come close to a wooden sphere with your heavier metal ball. Don’t worry, it’s easy to learn and a lot of fun to practice!

The winners will beallocated door prices and we are planning to have a lot of fun!
Another surprisewill await you: since the Tour de France starts on the 5th, we have teamed up with our friends from the Race Pace on Snowden River to offer you a unique exhibit of bicycles currently hanging from our ceiling! It’s worth stopping by to look at it. On top of that, we will have a drawing for:
- a Trek Lime bike with 3 speed automatic shifting for recreational bike paths,
- a gastronomic meal from Café de Paris,
- And more…..
Just come in to one of their 3 stores or the café, and fill out a bulletin with your name and address. The drawing be held on Sunday, July 27th.
That same day, 2 bike rides will be organized both starting and returning at the Café. You will have a breakfast of café au lait and French pastries before you leave, and a crepe meal upon your return. The whole deal (breakfast, bike ride and lunch) will only cost you $15!

Voila, I hope you will find the time to join us for one of these events or at least come to savor the pleasure of seeing the bike rides and world war II vehicles.
We look forward to welcoming you and wish you all a wonderful Holiday weekend.
Au revoir,
